Wild Spaces Tote

This is the only bag currently offered that is made using naturally tanned buckskin- a process that can take anywhere between three and five days to complete.

The body of the tote is oil tanned cow hide form North America, and has excellent durability and a beautiful pull-up. Minor scratches and imperfections can be removed by simply rubbing them with your finger.

The fringe is what gives this bag character and imbues it with story. Soft, strong, and breathable, buckskin was traditionally the best clothing making material available for hunter gatherer peoples. This hide was tanned from a California blacktail deer following ancient methods of removing the hair, infusing it with fats, then softening it by hand over the course of many hours. Finally, it was smoked to seal in its soft, bouncy qualities and that is where it gets its light smoke color.

We sometimes forget that we still rely on wild spaces in our world for the air we breathe and the water we drink. Some still rely on them for the food they bring to their tables. This bag is a humble, beautiful reminder that we are still connected to the wild that shaped our species and made us who we are. For this limited edition tote, 10% of profits will donated directly to The California Wilderness Coalition for preserving California's wild spaces.
